Twice a year Clinton Jones aka “pwnisher” puts on a 3D community art render challenge. I’ve been loosely aware of them for years. But I participated for the first time last year for the Rampage Rally summer challenge. I was really sick for the first couple of weeks of the challenge. I still put something passable together but nowhere near what I was originally hoping to do. I still made a model of my skateboard, rigged it, and made one of my favorite original cartoons into a rigged 3D model. So I still got my bare minimum out of it. I had wanted to make those things for a long time and still plan on refining and animating them. I also took it as an opportunity to learn the Basics of Marvelous Designer and JengaFX software. I’ll make a longer post about my Rampage Rally submission later.

I had to skip the spring challenge on account of being swamped with work at the school district. I would have really liked to participate on account of it was really up my alley. It was music visuals and dream themed, two things I’ve always liked and have produced some of in the past. I’m excited to get something put together for this challenge. I’m already getting a late start and have a few two many adult things to do, so I don’t have high hopes for making top 100, but still happy to be here. The theme this time is making a trading card centered a character/hero. Here’s the announcement video:

This certainly arrived at the right time for me, as I’m currently trying to get back into some collector card games, mainly Magic The Gathering. I haven’t really had time to do that either but we’ll see. In any case, I’m still in the early idea stages for this project. I don’t know if what I have in mind will work for it yet. I’m thinking of more of a demon/creature and it seems like they want more of a bipedal hero/warrior. I was also thinking of combining this with my whole album covers to CG project. I was thinking of making something inspired by either Ten Ton Slug or terminal Nation’s album covers. I still haven’t really decided what to do at all, but I’ll work it out.
